My Approach
As an art therapist, I like to create a space where intuition and logic can intersect as I use artmaking and imagery with clients as an additional tool for exploration and growth.
By bringing the tactile experience of artmaking into the therapy space, I guide clients in connecting with parts of the brain that language cannot reach as readily. I am trained to select art materials and art processes carefully based on the needs and goals of the individual.
My approach is guided by narrative therapy, which reminds us that our experience of the world can shift based on the story that we tell of our life. Gaining a deeper understanding of how that narrative has developed can help a person grow in their ability to face uncertainties and build resilience. This approach is strengths-based, and is meant to help a person connect with their own strengths, support systems, and skillsets to approach the challenges of life with groundedness and confidence. Object Relations Theory and Attachment Theory deeply influence my work; I believe that important growth and insights can develop by better understanding our past, family history, and the early relationships that helped us to understand the world. By exploring those early experiences, it can promote healing and improved present-day relationships.
